Jacqui Carroll has been playfully altering reality in the darkroom since 2008; whether through technique or apparatus, she finds ways to reimagine the truth. She first explored this concept through her “Pinhole Zoo” series, one which deceived viewers into believing plastic animal toys were real, live beings, ready for attack. Her most recent series, “Lost Figures”, is playful and provocative; it challenges viewers to imagine themselves in the position of the subjects, while maintaining the integrity of the environment. Carroll’s photography is as much about the experimentation, challenge, and solace that occurs in the darkroom as it is about the moment that is originally captured.
